Remembering Mark Gobble

Mark Gobble, former Texas School for the Deaf principal,
was hit by a car while jogging and died on the street.
He was getting ready for his new job at at Boston University.

Athletic director Chris Hamilton said:

SAD!   Hit us hard in the Austin community.   He was
a well rounded person.   He did coach MS football in 2003.
He sometimes would volunteer his time helping the Varsity team.
When he was a principal here, he was our NUMBER one fan.
Always stopped my office the next day to chat about the games
that he watched.

Mark, who played a season of football at Florida School for
the Deaf & Blind, never played football at Gallaudet. He
was hurt in the pre-season camp and never played football
again.

Oldtimers will remember his father, the late Ed Gobble, an
all-time Gallaudet football great who put in two seasons of
semi pro football with Virginia Sailors (Atlantic Coast
Football Conference) and with Frederick Falcons (Interstate
Football League), during the late sixties.

Deaf Sports Trivia

Q. Brendan Stern is the new men’s basketball coach at
Gallaudet. What was so unusual about it?

A. Brendan is changing jobs – from women’s basketball coach
to men’s basketball coach. One does not see that happen
too often, if any, at hearing colleges.
