homeless deaf baseball players

there was a story in USA Today about a homeless minor league player
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/03/matt-pare-san-francisco-giants-homeless-minor-leaguer-salaries-minor-league-baseball-mlb

it reminds DeafDigest Sports editor of a true story. During the 1996 Pan American
Games for the Deaf in Venezuela, the players on the Venezuelan baseball
team slept overnight with sleeping bags in the dugout of the baseball
stadium! It was a sad scene that brought the American baseball players
to tears. The Venezuela deaf baseball team just had no money to
put up the players in a hotel. At the end of the games, the Americans
donated much of their equipment to the Venezuelan deaf team.

Derrick Coleman

Breaking down the Atlanta Falcons fullback battle

part of web posting

The recently-signed fullback has one of the wilder stories you’ll hear
from any fullback in the NFL (yes, I realize how small a crowd I’m
selecting from, here). He has a Super Bowl ring with the Seahawks, knows
Dan Quinn, is essentially deaf and uses hearing aids, and pled guilty in a
hit-and-run accident. He also didn’t play an NFL game in 2016.

Coleman can run a little, catch a tiny bit, and blocks reasonably well,
but if he’s going to get this gig, it might be his connection to Quinn
that does it. Someone else will have to tell me if I’ve missed the mark
here, but I simply haven’t seen enough to suggest that he’s more than
average overall in run blocking, and he likely needs to be in order to
make a compelling case for the gig.

Coleman appears to have technically served his suspension last season,
though he didn’t play in any games, so he should be available from the
jump for the Falcons.

Fremont sports

This week, if the weather holds, we will have four home games for you to
go to this week!  Our baseball team is finally getting practices together
after a long basketball season and they are 1-1 so far.  Our softball
girls has blew out of the gate going 5-0 and winning the Making Waves Open
Tournament Champion last weekend!

This weekend, the highlight will be our Varsity Cheerleading Squad
traveling to Disneyland to participate in the USA Nationals Competition
after they went 2nd place in the regionals at Logan High School last
November.  Cheerleading is a very tough sport and we are very proud of our
team and coaches for large roster numbers and staying together all the way
since August!

Athlete of the Week – REBECCA DIPAOLA
The senior captain has had a huge start to the season.  She pitched four
of our first five game, going 4-0 and striking out 25 batters in just 15
innings!  Her experience has helped our team win the tournament in an
exciting 12-10 championship game.
