Alabama football

part of newspaper story

Paul Kulick, Alabama School for the Deaf: Kulick returns for his second
stint as head coach of the Silent Warriors after the previous coach,
Herminio Gonzalez, moved on to the California School for the Deaf. The
Silent Warriors finished 3-7 in 2016.

Demi Skinner, Australian national women’s basketball tea

Demi is deaf. She played one season of junior college
basketball in USA before going back to Australia.

On an Australian basketball web site, it said she
is WNBA-draft eligible in 2019.

It does not mean she will be drafted by a WNBA team;
it simply means she is eligible to join the pool of
draft-eligible women.

confession of ASL teacher at a college

One ASL teacher told DeafDigest Sports editor
that the ASL classes she teaches at a college
is somewhat of a joke.

That college has a football team (NCAA-I),
meaning these players are on football
scholarships.

The coaching staff steered their players to
ASL classes in hopes of getting good grades
to comply with the NCAA regulations.

The players didn’t care about ASL or of the
deaf or of deafness. They just wanted to
pass the courses, hoping to get good grades
to help them stay eligible.

The teacher was tough – would not pass the
players who would not try hard to learn
ASL!
