Hero of the Week: lllinois School for the Deaf

JACKSONVILLE — It’s hard enough getting a team to execute the intricacies
of a jet sweep or a five-receiver set. Imagine doing it without sound.

The Tigers of the Illinois School for the Deaf do that, and they do it
well.

REPORT

Today the Marie Philip Lady Ghosts, #2 in the Independent Girls’
Conference (IGC), took on the #1 team, undefeated Chapel Hill Chauncy
Hall.  Our girls had a difficult time getting themselves back into the
game again and again by letting errors pile up.  Despite the scores that
indicated close sets, we did not play to our potential today.  The
Chargers took advantage to sweep us for today and for the regular season.

The nice thing about being defeated today is that it made the needs for
our individual players, and teams, much more obvious than when we were on
our winning streak.  The coaches will be sure to work with our players on
those needs all weekend as we travel to Maryland to take part in the
nationwide Spike Out II tournament.  Our overall record is 11-6 and our
IGC record is 5-2.

ARFF Film Review: ‘Four Quarters of Silence’ Speaks Loudly

A few weeks ago, in Austin’s Zilker Park, I was wandering around with my
camera and saw some people playing frisbee golf. I went over to them to
take their picture. After a few seconds of confusion, I realized they were
deaf, but they were happy with me photographing their game. I then saw the
t-shirt which read “Texas School for the Deaf”.
