Gallaudet men’s basketball

WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University’s men’s basketball defense could not
slow down the Prairie Wolves from Nebraska Wesleyan University here Sunday
afternoon in the Field House on Padden Court. The visiting Prairie Wolves
were unstoppable from outside as they made 18 of 36 shots from 3-point
range en route to a 99-77 victory.

Gallaudet (2-9) dropped its fourth straight game this month as it only
made 28.6 percent of its shots in the first half and trailed 43-27 at the
break. In the second half, GU played a more even game as it made 58.1
percent of its shots and went 6-for-12 from 3-point range. The Bison were
outscored 56-50 in the second half by the Prairie Wolves (9-0).

Nebraska Wesleyan, a West Region powerhouse and NCAA tournament tested
program, demonstrated why they are one of the top 3-point shooting
programs in Division III and also the top team in the country for assists
per game. The Prairie Wolves assisted on 32 of its 37 shots made from the
field.

GU had three players in double figures led by sophomore guard Noah
Valencia (Riverside, Calif.), who scored 21 points and made five

grabbed nine rebounds, made two steals and one block. Freshman guard
Preston Kelly (Fishers, Ind.) scored a career best 15 points as he made a
team best six assists and five steals.

This was Nebraska Wesleyan’s second time playing at Gallaudet. The Bison
upset the nationally-ranked Prairie Wolves back during the 1989-90 season
in overtime, 78-75, when Nebraska Wesleyan was ranked No. 13th in the
country. That season the Prairie Wolves finished the season 22-7 and lost
in the NCAA West/Midwest sectional.
