Duke football – deaf kicker
part of newspaper story
Duke will not have kicker Austin Parker who is out of school for academic
reasons. If you’ll remember, last season the kicking game was wretched.
Parker did a nice job for Duke with both kicks and punts and will be
missed.
Grad student transfer William Holmquist will take over his duties.
Holmquist, who is nearly completely deaf, has some challenges but managed
them well at Tufts, where he started with lacrosse and then walked on to
the football team.
His last two years he was all-NESCAC and he hit a couple of field goals of
more than 40 yards and at least one with the game on the line.
We’re not sure how much it will matter but it’s bound to matter some
that Duke has vastly better training resources than D-III Tufts.

deaf son of a past deaf pro athlete

His deaf son Johnny Kyte is a sophomore with the University
of Southern Maine hockey team.

2016-17: Played in 26 games, tallying three points (1g, 2a) …
Scored his first collegiate goal against Babson (11/18/16)
so far his season:
he has played 10 of his team’s 12 games, logging no stats
but logging 14 minutes in the penalty box as the defenseman
he attempted ten shots on the goal

deaf pro women’s basketball player
Raven Pentz
listed on the roster of a pro women’s basketball team
in Puerto Rico
while the roster has listed her, she has not been
assigned an uniform number.
The web site has not fully explained her playing
status with the women’s team
It is not known, however, if the hurricane that destroyed
Puerto Rico, has also disrupted athletic activities on
the island.
