Marie Philip girls’ basketball
Last Friday (1/19) game MPS traveled to Boston University
Academy (BUA). We only had 6 player from 6th grade to 9th grade. First
half, our girls learned to play together with two first time starters. It
was a little rusty at first but we did a very good job learning each
other. The score at halftime was BUA leading 14-13. During the second
half BUA team went on a full court press against us.
We were overwhelmed at first but we learned to make adjustments. We
refused to give up and counter-moved with a half-court press. We were
getting closer however the time had ran out. We lost the game with final
score, 29-35. Coach Anderson and I were so proud how much desire and
determination our girls had in the game.
Record 7-5
Next game – Tuesday, January 23 at International School of Boston – 515 pm
game time.

RISD Girls Basketball Recap
RISD Girls Basketball played host to New York School for the Deaf on a
Saturday day game — this would be a good test for our girls going up
against a team that was on a similar competitive level as us. Fanwood
started off strong, grabbing a 10-5 lead halfway through the first half
but our girls were able to keep the game close as the halftime score was
14-9 Fanwood.
In the second half, we were able to step up on defense and held Fanwood to
just four second-half points. We were even able to cut the lead to a
single possession toward the end of the game, but our girls struggled to
convert on their shot opportunities. NYSD girls won an exciting game by
the final score of 18-13.
NYSD – 14 4 – 18
RISD - 9 4 – 13
RISD
Yasmin S. – 7 Points
