Marie Philip girls’ basketball

Last Friday (1/19) game MPS traveled to Boston University
Academy (BUA).  We only had 6 player from 6th grade to 9th grade. First
half,  our girls learned to play together with two first time starters. It
was a little rusty at first but we did a very good job learning each
other. The score at halftime was BUA leading 14-13.  During the second
half BUA team went on a full court press against us.
We were overwhelmed at first but we learned to make adjustments. We
refused to give up and counter-moved with a half-court press. We were
getting closer however the time had ran out.  We lost the game with final
score, 29-35.  Coach Anderson and I were so proud how much desire and
determination our girls had in the game.

 Record 7-5

Next game – Tuesday, January 23 at International School of Boston – 515 pm
game time.

On Saturday January 20th, the New York School for the Deaf-Fanwood came
into town for a Div 1 vs. Div 2 ESDAA match up. The game started with
great intensity on both sides but the inside game of NYSD proved to be too
much for the Roosters. The final score was 44 to 24. Timothy Jallah scored
9 points to go with his 7 rebounds and Jayden Elias chipped in with 8
points.

RISD Boys Basketball Record: 3-12

RISD Girls Basketball Recap

RISD Girls Basketball played host to New York School for the Deaf on a
Saturday day game — this would be a good test for our girls going up
against a team that was on a similar competitive level as us. Fanwood
started off strong, grabbing a 10-5 lead halfway through the first half
but our girls were able to keep the game close as the halftime score was
14-9 Fanwood.

In the second half, we were able to step up on defense and held Fanwood to
just four second-half points. We were even able to cut the lead to a
single possession toward the end of the game, but our girls struggled to
convert on their shot opportunities. NYSD girls won an exciting game by
the final score of 18-13.

NYSD – 14  4  – 18
RISD  -  9    4  – 13

RISD
Yasmin S. – 7 Points
Ellie L. – 2 Points
Olivia C. – 2 Points
Melissa E-G. – 2 Points

RISD Girls Basketball Record: 2-10
Next Game: Tuesday, January 23rd vs. American School for the Deaf (4:45
P.M.)
