Gallaudet women’s basketball

GU hangs tough with NEAC’s top team from the North Division

MARCY N.Y. – The Gallaudet University women’s basketball team fell to the
top team in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) North Division
here Sunday as the host Wildcats defeated the Bison, 80-71.

The Bison (8-13, 6-7 NEAC) went back-and-forth with SUNY Poly (15-6, 11-1
NEAC) for the lead in the first quarter as GU grabbed the lead twice. The
Wildcats led 13-12 after the first 10 minutes of play. SUNY Poly used
multiple runs in the second and third quarters to distance itself from
Gallaudet.

The Wildcats, who led 33-25 at the half, gained their largest lead of the
game in the third quarter by 13 points, 38-25, at the 9:21 mark.

Junior guard/forward Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) scored a game-high 34
points, six rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson,
Ariz.) followed up with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Senior
forward Kelsey Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) continues to dominate the boards
as she grabbed a game-high 18. Freshman guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick,
Md.) recorded nine points, passed out a game-high eight assists and five
rebounds in the loss.

Gallaudet men’s basketball

Lead slips away from Bison in closing minutes on the road

MARCY, N.Y. – The Gallaudet men’s basketball team gave up a close game in
a five-point loss, 82-77, to SUNY Poly here Sunday in a North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.

The Bison (6-15, 6-7 NEAC) led early in the first half before they finally
relinquished the lead in the final minutes to the Wildcats (15-6, 11-1
NEAC), who pulled ahead with a three-point lead, 39-36, at intermission.

GU came out hot in the second half as the Bison went on a 15-2 run.
Gallaudet made four three-pointers from long range and added three more
points on a lay up and foul shot. The Bison led 51-41 at the 15:56 mark.

Gallaudet held the lead for the majority of the second half until the
final two minutes. The Wildcats ramped up their pressure and made some key
shots to complete the comeback win.

Senior forward Andy Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a double-double with
team-high 28 points and 10 rebounds. He drained a three-pointer with seven
seconds left to cut SUNY Poly’s lead to one, 78-77.

Freshmen guard Preston Kelly (Fishers, Ind.) added 18 points and three
assists while sophomore Noah Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) chipped in 15
points.
