Navy accepts a wrestler that has a hearing loss

Wrestler River Curtis, Battlefield HS in
Virginia has a hearing loss.

He wanted to wrestle for the US Naval Academy
(Navy).

The Navy admissions office reviewed his application
several times before deciding to accept him, saying
his heairng loss is not that severe enough!

He will be wrestling for one year at the Naval
Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island
before enrolling at Navy in 2019-20.

Other colleges – George Mason and Virginia
recruited him, and he would have attended
either college if Navy rejected him.

In the past, Navy has accepted athletes with
slight hearing losses, and so, it is not
that surprising that this wrestler has been
accepted.
