random deafsports thoughts

is deaf wrestling a dead sport in USA?

Hope not. USA is not participating in the World Deaf
Wrestling championships.

Few deaf schools field wrestling teams. The number was
higher years ago.

Wrestling was a major Gallaudet sport during the Golden
Era fifties. Not a sport any more at Gallaudet.

A CELLPHONE AT A DEAF BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
We, the deaf use text pagers; hearing people use
voice cell phones.
At one deaf schools basketball tournament, one of the
players from a residential school for the deaf was using
his cell phone. He was not using it to send text messages;
he was using it to communicate by voice.
People at the tournament were surprised. That player
was hard of hearing and was able to hear the voice on
the cell phone.
Guess not every cell phone user is a hearing
person!

note:

This story was a past DeafDigest edition, for your
fun reading in today’s DeafDigest Sports. The cellphone
user was a member of the New York 47 School for the Deaf
basketball team. A coach at New York State School for
the Deaf (Rome) saw it and was shocked and told DeafDigest
Sports editor about it. Obviously the cellphone user
was hard of hearing.

The 47 School played in ESDAA for several years before
dropping out.

rising sophomore in college soccer

Eddie Perry

men’s soccer

DePaul University (IL – NCAA-I)

his profile was this:
2017 (Freshman): Did not compete on the field.

big question:
will he finally make his collegiate debut or will he continue
to sit on the bench?

DePaul announced eight new freshmen recruits.

Is this bad news for him?

…………………………………..

signing a contract with Miami Marlins

Cason Sherrod (7th round) was announced as one of the
16 Marlins draftees to sign a contract.

Signed players already are reporting to Jupiter,
Fla., to begin their professional careers.

we will see where the Marlins will place him.
High school draftees tend to play in a rookie
league

College draftees tend to play with a short-season
team.
