Gallaudet women’s soccer

WASHINGTON – In a complete downpour the Gallaudet University women’s
soccer team sloshed its way to a 9-0 win over Hollins College here Sunday
afternoon at a rain-drenched Hotchkiss Field.

Gallaudet (2-2) posted its second straight shutout this weekend as the
Bison won, 2-0, the day before in the home and conference opener over
College of Saint Elizabeth.

Five different Bison found the back of the net against Hollins (1-3) on
Sunday.

Senior midfielder Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) and freshman midfielder
Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) recorded hat tricks in the win. Shysh
scored back-to-back goals early in the first half as GU jumped out to a
quick 4-0 lead. Shysh assisted two other goals and scored the final goal
of the game for the Bison in the 64th minute.

Freshman defender Sara Kulisan (St. Augustine, Fla.) scored the game’s
first goal in the opening minute off an assist from Shysh.

Gallaudet took a 6-0 lead into halftime after senior forward Brittany
Mallach (Milton, Ontario) and freshman midfielder Kayla Marie Chiofilo
(Stoneham, Mass.) netted the fifth and sixth goals, respectively, for the
Bison.

Neild scored two of her three goals in the second half in the 52nd and
61st minute.

Junior goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) made five saves in her
second consecutive shutout of the weekend.

BISON TRACKS

GU has scored 11 consecutive goals in the past the two games

Kulisan’s and Chiofilo’s goals were their first collegiate goals

The Bison outshot Hollins 19-5

UP NEXT

Hotchkiss Field under the lights at 7 p.m.

random deafsports thoughts

Gallaudet women soccer players Sabina Shysh and
Hannah Neild are an interesting combination.

Most college athletes play one sport and concentrate
on it throughout their collegiate careers.

Shysh plays four varsity sports – soccer, basketball,
softball and track. Yes, both softball and track
during the same season as she juggles her team’s
schedules.

Neild, much better known for her basketball,
also plays two other sports – soccer and softball.

These two women combined for six of Gallaudet’s
nine goals in the win (above story)

Gary Klingensmith update

Deaf football coach Gary Klingensmith (Juniata HS, PA)
is still stuck at 299 career wins.

His team was highly rated in pre season previews
but somehow is off to a 0-3 start.

Susquenita HS defeated his team 28-14 on Friday
night, thus delaying his quest for 300 career
wins.
