Mason-Dixon volleyball

Mason Dixon Volleyball tourney is held at Tennessee School for the Deaf
this weekend, Oct. 11th – 13th.

note:
this tournament will involve 9 schools instead of 11 because
two Mason-Dixon schools are not having teams this season.

Plus there is a worry – the upcoming Hurricane that is due to
hit the Florida area.

Georgia football & volleyball

We traveled to the “Land of the Vikings”  with our volleyball and football
teams.

Homecoming at Tennessee School for the Deaf
Saturday morning the ladies matched up in the “Ol’ Gym” for volleyball.

The Lady Vikings took the match 3-0.
GSD -  15    11    16
TSD – 25     25     25

My hats off to the TSD volleyball coaches. It was their Homecoming and
they recognized their senior. Along with their seniors they recognized our
seniors also. They got the idea from late great Coach Pat Summitt who
would recognize the opposing teams’ seniors at the same time as she
recognized hers. What a great honor for our young ladies.
Record: 6-20-0 ( we  lost to Gaylesville High and Appalachian High last
Thursday)
Next match Tuesday 10/9/18 vs Unity Christian Academy then Thursday back
to Knoxville and TSD for the Mason-Dixon Volleyball Tournament

Saturday afternoon our young men matched up on the football field. And
what a hot game it was ( both the game and the temperature) the game could
have gone either way, but the temperature was there to stay .
Both teams gave their all, but we were able to edge out a victory. Hats
off to the TSD coaching staff and all their young men for never quitting
or giving up and to my coaching staff and GSD’s young men for doing the
same.  The final score was 60-42 Our record now is 2-3-0 next game vs
Louisiana on October 27th.

Indiana football

sectionals opponent

will play against Indianapolis Howe

note:
Howe defeated Indiana Deaf 40-18 earlier in the season

in Indiana, all high school teams, regardless of their
records, qualify for state playoffs. The sectionals is
the first step.

In theory, a team that went 0-10 can get hot and win all
of their playoff games all the way to the state championship
finals and become state champions. This does not happen in
real life. Indiana Deaf belongs to Class A.

random deafsports thoughts

There is a number of deaf schools which either have cooperative
sports programs with nearby high schools – OR – allows their
deaf students to play for high school teams in sports that
their school does not have. Examples are – baseball, softball,
ice hockey, football. Yet – participation by these deaf students
in hearing high school sports have always been minimal.
