Marie Philip School Volleyball match report.

Date: Friday October 19, 2018

Location: Marie Philip School, Framingham, MA

Result: Dexter Southfield 3, MPS 0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-13)

Today we hosted non-league NEPSAC opponent Dexter Southfield for our
annual friendly volleyball match.  Dexter Southfield has grown its
volleyball program considerably since starting it in 2015.  Last year they
picked up a rare win at home at our expense in a 5-set thriller.  This
year coming into today’s match they were 3-0 against schools in our
conference (including beating Montrose 3-0 – they beat us 3-2 this
Wednesday).  Today they made it 4-0 in less dramatic fashion.

Dexter Southfield looked the part of a big-school high school varsity
team.  Tall and speedy players, powerful serving, and unwavering
confidence whether they had just made a well-placed kill or an error in
execution.  Playing without two starters, the players MPS had today had
more reception errors than receptions, dig errors than digs, and only one
three-touch kill with an assist.  It was a quick game this season as
Dexter Southfield swept us 3 sets to none.

I am glad Dexter Southfield made the trip from Brookline to play against
our Lady Ghosts, as we need to face opponents of that caliber to help us
prepare for next weekend’s Deaf-schools-only ESDAA tournament and the IGC
league playoffs in the following week.  Our players will rest this weekend
after having played four matches in five days.  On Monday we will have our
last home match of the season against league opponent the Cambridge School
of Weston.  We hope our local fans will join us at 4 P.M. we thank two
senior players for their services to our team.  We will spend the rest of
the week practicing and making final adjustments for the big ESDAA weekend
at the New York School for the Deaf near White Plains.  Our record is now
11-8 (5-6 IGC).

TODAY’S STATS
Lily Fruguglietti (Jr.) – 8 Receptions, 1 Dig, and 2 service points
Faith Kirlis (6th) – 3 Digs, 2 Receptions, and 3 service points
Samantha Fernsebner (8th) – 1 Assist, 3 Receptions, and 1 service point
Zora Elliott-Mendelsohn (Fr.) – 1 Kill and 4 service points
Chloe Martin (7th) – 1 Reception and 2 service points
Carleigh Babbit (8th) – 2 service points

Record: 14-4-1

We are not out of the woods yet. Top 4 teams are in bracket play tomorrow
morning. We play WPSD for 3rd time this year tomorrow morning. WPSD went
2-0 in another pool while we went 1-1, good for 2nd in our pool. Suppose
we win this game, we are in championship game so we still have a very good
chance.

Outside of USOC’s contributions and the NHL’s $25,000 per player, the rest
of the money comes from USA Hockey. There are also performance bonuses
above their salaries. For winning the gold medal, U.S. women’s national
team players received a bonus of $37,500, which by federal law is
tax-free.

usa pays nary a cent towards deaf sports
