Fremont sports

After a great Senior Night game, the Varsity Football and Cheerleading
team is back in the NCS Playoffs and will travel to Fort Bragg on Friday
in an attempt to continue our great season.  The Volleyball team ended
their season in a loss against Berean Christian completing a memorable
season in which they won a school record 26 games!  Many female athletes
will begin with basketball tryouts this week and we will release the
schedule in due time when it is ready however the first game will not be
until after the fall break.  Finally, the Cross Country team has their
final league meet tomorrow before heading into the BCL Championship and
the NCS.  Good luck everybody!

Athlete of the Week – HAN MYAT.  This young man has never been late to or
missed a practice this year.  He signed up the year to be a manager but
then began to show up in his helmets and pads.  Since he is also one of
our hardest working player.  He deserves to score a touchdown at the
recent game.

Athlete of the Week – JADA AND JADE DAWSON.  The love of the game is seen
often through the sisters. Our season ended earlier than we thought and we
can’t let the opportunity to recognize the sisters who has given it all.

Our senior, middle blocker, Jada Dawson wears her love for volleyball on
her sleeve and always ignites passion in games.  Her commitment to the
game is always apparent, she usually is the last one to leave practice.
Desire to understand more about the game, has higher understanding which
gives her ability to coach her teammates. She has evolved to a leader and
consistent force this season. Jada holds 14 top ten records in volleyball
and it is due to her work ethics and commitment to the game.

Feisty yet steady describes her game, her killer service aces have given
us some nice cushion in our games. Jade Dawson is also often the last one
to leave the gym, practicing with her sister. The setter, who hit her 1000
career assists this season has the hands. Her hard work in improving her
service and defense and accommodating different style of hitters among her
team has delivered some beautiful plays this season. Jade has 12 top ten
records in volleyball as well.

The sisters have given us great four years and is deserving of this honor
for all their commitment and service to the volleyball program.

Marie Philip School Volleyball playoffs report.

Date: Monday October 29, 2018
Location: Landmark School, Beverly, MA
Result: MPS 3, Landmark 1 (20-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-16)

Today the #5 seeded Marie Philip School Lady Ghosts traveled to the #4
seeded Landmark School for the first round of the Independent Girls’
Conference playoffs.  We were missing three players today but our players
put the team first and refused to give up on the match.  We knew Landmark
had a very strong home court advantage and we also knew if we could win a
set there then we would have a chance to win the match.

In the first set we committed 5 service errors and several
miscommunication errors that ruined great passes and gave the Vikings free
points.  A comeback attempt fell short and Landmark won the first set
25-20.

Between sets the coaches told the girls that we couldn’t give them free
points through service errors.  We also reviewed our defense and how to
counter Landmark’s attacking and free balls.  Our players were perfect in
their serving for the rest of the game – we made zero errors in the final
three sets!!!  Our consistency surprised the Vikings in the 2nd set and we
took it 25-18.

We swapped to the same side of the court we struggled with in the first
set for our third set.  Landmark had an early lead, but to their surprise
the Lady Ghosts became more consistent and slowly chipped away at their
lead.  We were able to outlast them 26-24 to take the 2-1 lead.

Our digging defense and hustle play starred in the fourth set.  We won it
25-16 to win the match 3-1 for our first ever IGC playoff match win.

Everyone starred in today’s game.  Freshman Zora Elliott-Mendelsohn, 7th
graders Rita Child and Chloe Martin, and 6th grader Faith Kirlis all
played their BEST games of the season!!!  Zora had 11 kills and 2 blocks,
Rita had 13 service points, 2 kills, and 3 digs, Chloe set her season high
with 9 assists, and Faith had 3 receptions and her left side defense was
impenetrable.  The other five players were all superb and supported each
other on the court and from the bench to put the team first and help us
win today.  This was the best match I have coached in my five years for
MPS.  Our girls were incredible today.

Our IGC league semifinals is tomorrow at 4 P.M.  We will visit the #1
seeded Montrose School, where we defeated them earlier this season 3-1.
This season has been a great ride so far and we will do our best to extend
it for as long as possible.  Our overall record is 16-11 and our league
record is 7-6.

TEAM STATS
19 Kills and 16 Assists
19 Aces, 88% serving, and 60 service points
2 Blocks
9 Digs and 24 Errors
20 Receptions and 20 Errors

random deafsports thoughts

for one deaf football player for the past three seasons,
it was fun for him.

Two years ago – played 8 man football

Last year – played 11 man football

This season – played 6 man football

He transfered two times, meaning full exposure
to different types of football

His current coach said:

more fun for him!
