Redlands Adventist came and conquered us, 57-29.  Record: 0-1.

With Ken Watson on board as my ass’t coach and CSDR alumnus, we were
impressed with our team’s defense.  Our offense needs some fine-tuning and
all.  Zane Hencker led team with 10 points and Jason Bussey had a few
great timely blocks along with 4 points.

We will be on Thanksgiving break next week and will return to action on
Wednesday, Nov. 28th against Silver Valley at Knights Classic tournament.

random deafsports thoughts

There was a story in today’s newspapers about DJ Durkin,
the fired University of Maryland football coach, who
was giving coaching tips to his assistant coaches
while he was on administrative leave – meaning he had
to stay away from football, but he didn’t.

It sort of happened to one deaf school football team
in the south in the 1951 football season. A football
coach, who was fired from his teaching and coaching
job after two seasons, attended the school football
games as a “fan.”

In the football stands, he gave football signals to
the team quarterback. People at the school were
upset about it but they seemingly were not able to
stop him. Did it help? The team had a winning season
after five consecutive losing seasons.

It all stopped when that person moved out of town
to take a new job elsewhere!
