Colorado girls’ basketball
With our second to last home game matchup against Hanover, we were hoping
to
get payback after losing on their home floor just a few weeks ago. We came
out battling in the first quarter, with Hanover leading 14 to 8. Hanover
took advantage of our mistakes and turnovers in the second quarter and
inflated their lead 36 to our 12. We came out the second half continuing
to
fight and battle back. Unfortunately, as a team we were not able to have a
balanced scoring attack. Despite being double teamed the whole game,
Senior
Diana Enriquez had the best game of her career, finishing with a triple
double. 22 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 blocks, 6 steals, and 2 assists.
Senior Rose Longbine, despite having a cold shooting night, continued her
floor general leadership, earned 2 points, 6 steals, 2 rebounds, an assist
and a block apiece, while playing with 4 fouls throughout the second half.
Freshman Marie Padilla had a monster game on the boards, pulling down her
career high 14 rebounds, along with 4 points and an assist. Senior
Chantelle
Morales did a great job contributing on the floor earning herself 2
points,
4 rebounds, and a steal. Senior Daniela Lopez played aggressive basketball
the whole game, and was able to chip in with 4 rebounds, an assist and a
steal apiece.
0-14 record

February 4 vs Bishop Snyder at University Christian
FSDB 49 – Bishop Snyder 40
Sweet victory! We started well with a 13 point run at the beginning of
first quarter. Since then, we maintained our lead until the final buzzer.
We were able to kill the time better this time after giving 6 points with
our turnovers in fourth quarter.
Our bench players contributed to this win by playing stingy defense while
some starters had their rest. Olivia managed to get 14 points. Bishop
Snyder could not stop Lourdine with her shooting and rebounding. Lourdine
was definitely our player of the
game with 23 points.
Stats will be shared later today.
Tonight, we will play against University Christian at 7 PM. Come and
support us at the UC gym!!! If we win tonight, we will be in the
championship game this Friday.

Michigan girls’ basketball
Today we did play against New Life Christian Academy second time this
season and we lost 3-44. We did give them hard time in first quarter which
we limited them just 3 points compared when we played them first time
which
they scored 12 points in first quarter. We couldn’t keep that defense
momentum going so they started to create many great shots. Our lead score
was Chloe Woggerman, Senior, with 3 points. Our next game would be
tomorrow
against league opponent, Landmark at our home court.

make few scores in, CAP’s defensive stopped us all quarters. We lost 6-58.
Hazim Haroun and William Sepulveda each scored 3 points. Aquil roane had 9
rebounds and 4 blocks.

Rhode Island girls’ basketball
In our last game before the ESDAA Division 2 Girls’ Basketball Tournament
– our girls were determined to keep our two-game winning streak alive and
maintain our momentum heading toward Rochester, N.Y. for the upcoming
ESDAA
Division 2 Girls’ Basketball Tournament.
Our girls started off great as we were able to convert a lot of our
out-of-bound plays as well as fast break opportunities to jump out to a
17-0 halftime lead. We experimented with different things and rotations
throughout the second half of the game, including trying to get some of
our
younger players to build up their confidence by shooting the ball. We were
able to secure a solid win by the final score of 27-6.
We look forward to our tournament this weekend, starting with a rematch
against Delaware School for the Deaf this Friday evening.

St Mary’s girls basketball
The Lady Bisons took on New Life Christian yesterday in Olean, NY. This
was our first game back on the court since Jan 11th . Our last two games
were cancelled due to weather conditions and The Buffalo Blizzard of 2019
had school closed for days. Needless to say, we were rusty and came out
slow due to the lack of time in the gym. This was also the first time all
season we had all 8 players in uniform and together as a team. The result
was a 47-20 loss to New Life Christian.
Kioney Alvira-Jurado was back in uniform and led the Lady Bisons with 14
points and 15 points and our first double/double of the season. Cami Cole
had 6 points as well for the Lady Bisons.
The girls showed improvement despite the loss and are looking forward to
the weekend. They will be facing The Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf
of New Jersey on Friday night. The ESDAA Girls Division II Championships
are being hosted by Rochester.

does it pay to spy on other deaf team’s practice
In 1974, the USA national deaf hockey team (not AHIHA
but a separate organization) toured Czechoslovakia
to play games against their national deaf team.
The wealthy hearing father of one of the players
“bribed” the national Czechoslovakia team to watch
their practice. The suspicious Czech players knew
the spy was with the USA team. They changed their
practice drills to hide everything.
The father told the team captain and the team coach
that the Czech team was bad; the goalie couldn’t stop
shots; the skating and the shooting and the passing
was terrible, etc.
Result – the Czech team won the first game easily.
The Americans, however, won the second game to fly
home happy with the victory.
note:
Czechoslovakia was once a whole nation; it has been
split into two nations – the Czech Republic and
Slovakia.
