Gallaudet football opponent

newspaper story

READING, Pa. – The Alvernia University football team begins their second
season on Friday night when they travel to Gallaudet.

The Golden Wolves now have a full year of practices under their belt, and
head coach Ralph Clark has a full offseason of recruiting under his.

The offense impressed in year one, and Clark is hoping to replicate that
success and more in 2019.

note:
Alvernia beat Gallaudet last season 26-21. It was a game that Gallaudet
blew in the dying minutes. A couple of senseless out of bounds
defensive penalties allowed Alvernia to get away with the win they
should not have gotten!

Just hope the Friday night game at Gallaudet will show a different
script – a Galladuet win this time.

Fremont updates

LAST WEEK –  The Volleyball team went to the Bentley Tournament, playing
against top competition, dropping to Salesian, Summit K2, and host Bentley
but they had
some nice highlights that were posted on Instagram and this experience
will be critical for them before we get into league play.  The Football
and Cheerleading team
had a very unusual week in which we were allowed to postpone and play a
game on Monday and then Friday because we did not have a game on the
Friday before.  On
Monday, we started off strong scoring 32 points in the first quarter
against North Tahoe at home, finishing 45-0.  The teams then went to a
loaded Vacaville
Christian team on Friday where the game was very competitive for a long
time until we stumbled and they scored a lot of late points to win 43-8.
At this game,
there was an injury with a Vacaville Christian player that affected all of
us but we all are pulling for him and I’m glad to tell you all that he’s
doing so much
better right now!

THIS WEEK –  The Volleyball team has two home games today and tomorrow, as
we start our league play against Contra Costa Christian and Oakland
Military Institute,
come and root for us!  Football and Cheerleading will look to bounce back
against another tough opponent at Millennium in Tracy, we need your
support!  Next week,
our JV Volleyball Team will get ready for their first and second games and
the Cross Country Team will play at the Ed Sias Invitational, originally
at 9/7 but
postponed to 9/14.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – JAXON DINGEL.  This young man has been very
committed during the summer time and throughout camp that it was easy to
put him in an important
position at Left Tackle already as a freshmen.  Jaxon didn’t look like a
newcomer under the bright lights, producing very well for us in the first
two games.
Congratulations!

Phoenix football

more on their win over Mississippi from another source

Wanted to let you know that Phoenix’s #3, Brian Lucas is
not a new player.

He is an absolutely amazing player!

They have a good QB too and one big TE and these three can easily
star at any other school

Maverick MMA names Hamill, Heckman, and Trizano to inaugural Hall of Fame
class

part of posting

Maverick MMA may only have a few years in the game, but the Pennsylvania
based mixed martial arts promotion is already set on honoring some of the
fighters who helped put the promotion on the map.  Fight promoter Willy
Sisca has informed MyMMANews.com that he intends to induct three former
fighters into the inaugural class of the Maverick MMA Hall of Fame at next
weekend’s Maverick 14 fight card in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.  The
induction ceremony will take place before the night’s main event which
pairs Travis Foster up against Gabriel Barletta to crown the promotion’s
first 165-pound champion.

Matt Hamill
“It’s an honor to be inducted into the inaugural Maverick Hall of Fame,”
said former UFC star and current Maverick MMA light heavyweight champion
Matt Hamill (13-8). “I am glad to have fought for Maverick and have won
the light heavyweight championship. It is one of my greatest memories.”

“The Hammer” Hamill, known for be the first and only deaf fighter to
compete for the UFC, made his way on to the Ultimate Fighter season 3 in
2006. While on the show, Hamill was coached by former UFC light
heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz.  The student would later face the teacher
at UFC 121, defeating his mentor by way of unanimous decision.  Hamill has
fought some of the very best light heavyweights in the world to include
Ortiz, Michael Bisping, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Rich Franklin, and
Alexander Gustafasson.  He is the only fighter to currently hold a win
over Jon Jones. The win came to a disqualification from illegal strikes.
Hamill defeated Chris Birchler in the main event at Maverick 6 to win the
title in April 2018.  He has not returned to action since.

random deafsports thoughts

At least for the past 10 fall seasons we are seeing quite a few
cancellations of scheduled football games.

Two big reasons:

inclement weather

insufficient practice and training days; states require medical
exams and medical paperwork for football players. Those that
sign up at the late minute cannot play until they practice
for 10 day. No longer are the old day where an out of shape
player can join today and play tomorrow!

Does it pay to schedule pre-Labor Day football games?

Well, look at deaf soccer. Very rarely there are cancelled games
because deaf soccer teams tend to start their seasons after
Labor Day.

Just food for thought!
