Bison scrap with Gwynedd Mercy in final game of semester

WASHINGTON – It was a scrappy non-conference men’s basketball game here
Monday night in the Field House between Gallaudet University and Gwynedd
Mercy University. The two teams battled for 40 minutes before the Griffins
escaped with a 90-76 victory.

Gallaudet (1-8) trailed by as much as 22 points in the first half to
Gwynedd Mercy (6-1) as the two teams went into halftime with the Griffins
up, 56-36.

The Bison came out on fire in the second half as the Bison made their
first four shots, which forced Gwynedd Mercy to call a timeout just over
two minutes in. As quickly as GU went on that 10-0 run to begin the half,
the Bison went cold from the field. GU missed its next 10 shots from the
field, in a four-minute span, as the Griffins led 63-48. Gwynedd Mercy
kept Gallaudet at an arm’s length away from the lead the rest of the way.
GU cut the double-digit lead to nine points, 85-76, on a 3-pointer made by
freshman Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) at the 2:46 mark but that was as
close as the Bison got. The Griffins made two more shots from the field to
finish with 90 points.

Sophomore guard Corey Smith (Miami, Fla.) scored 15 of his team-high 18
points in the first half while senior guard Noah Valencia (Riverside,
Calif.) and junior guard Preston Kelly (Fishers, Ind.) tallied 16 points
each. Kelly finished with a game-high eight assists while Valencia made
three steals. Senior center Steve Valencia-Biskupiak (Riverside, Calif.)
recorded nine points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one
block. Lewis finished with nine second-half points

FSDB vs Eagle’s View Academy – 12/9/19
Final Score: 57 – 2

Our Lady Dragons cruised past Eagle’s View Academy. We had a 50-point lead
by halftime and rolled against the Warriors 50-7 at home. Our girls played
really hard.
Tonight, we started without our two starters, Olivia Brown and Keliah
Williams. However, Oceana started to shine as a point guard. She scored 30
amazing points with
11 steals and 3 assists. Lourdine finished her game with 8 points, 3
rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 assist. Before the game ended, Taria was able to
get control of ball,
and finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Most
importantly, we had all our bench players to step up and do their part.
They had to work extra
hard and really get noticed. Shanna Cooley and Elsie Essex scored 4 points
each while Emma Hancock, Shylah Thomas and Samantha Suarez scored 2
points. Taylor
Burcham had two rebounds in second half. We are definitely proud that all
of our Lady Dragons played really hard, and did their part. We will play
at Beacon of Hope
tonight.

The World Anti-Doping Agency has imposed a four-year ban on Russia using
its flag, anthem and team names at Olympic and other major sports events.

It said it applies to Paralympics.

What about Winter Deaflympics, taking place this week?

There is no such announcement yet from the Deaflympics governing
body, but the web site says, for hockey:

December 13
RUS vs CAN

Dec 14
KAZ vs RUS

Dec 17
RUS vs USA

Dec 18
FIN vs RUS

remainder of the schedule is medal games

What is going to happen?

Do not know because publicity from Deaflympics not always the best!
