softball umpire

part of newspaper story

The story of Jonathan Breuer, an umpire who happens to be deaf, really hit
home

Credit to NorthJersey.com photographer Michael Karas for spotting it
first.

I was covering the Donna Ricker softball tournament in Wood-Ridge one
clear April morning, and midway through the first game, Michael approached
me and said, “Darren, I think the umpire is deaf.”

He is. His name is Jonathan Breuer and he’s actually been umpiring and
refereeing games in North Jersey for almost a decade.

random deafsports talk

Is there such a thing as Fake Deaf Sports News?

DeafDigest Sports editor surfs news and media
outlets for updates in the world of deaf sports.

There was a posting that Canada is playing
Russia for the gold medal championship in
hockey.

DeafDigest Sports editor received emails
from hockey fans saying the Americans
won the gold.

Point is – hockey updates were not written
up in the newspapers on a daily basis during
the Deaflympics week.

And the emails were from people that NEVER
bothered to udpate DeafDigest Sports on daily
hockey results!
