random deafsports talk

Years ago DeafDigest Sports editor coached
Maryland School for the Deaf boys’ JV basketball
team.

He never forgot a game against a deaf school
JV team.

The deaf school JV team easily blew out the
Maryland team. But – with one minute remaining
in the game, the deaf school coach
called a time out. Why time out? There was no
way Maryland could catch up and win the game.
The score was out of reach.

Then again, a 2nd time out.

Then again, a 3rd and final time out.

All these three time outs in less than a
minute to play.

When the game ended, the DeafDigest Sports
editor asked the deaf school coach –
why all these three time outs while you had
the game easily won?

The response was this:

I had three time outs remaining and I hate to
waste these timeouts!

DeafDigest Sports editor is bringing this up
– because in the game between the Patriots
and the Jets, the Pats had the game easily
won, 33-0, yet the Pats took two time outs at
the end of game just to let the clock
run out. Even the Pats thought it was funny.

It blew up in Pats’ face last night as
the ex-Pats player and the current Titans
head coach, copied Pats’ strategy to use
up two time outs to burn up two minutes,
not allowing Pats enough time to reach the
midfield to attempt a game-winning field goal
attempt.

In other words, don’t taunt the other
team by playing around with these
time outs! It could blow up in the
winning team’s face later on.

Note:
It was many years ago.
