Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update regarding Gallaudet Athletics

Gallaudet Athletics
March 12, 2020

To our Gallaudet Student-Athletes:

On Wednesday, March 11, it was announced Gallaudet University will deliver
all classes remotely beginning after Spring Break from March 23 through
May 4.

While the risk to our community remains low at this time, this could
change quickly. Our precautionary actions will help limit potential
exposure to COVID-19 and
enhance our ability to manage and/or isolate any suspected or confirmed
cases that may occur at the university, and therefore limit the spread of
the virus both on
campus and in the region.

As a result it has been determined that:

*  Gallaudet’s baseball, softball and men’s and women’s track and field
seasons are canceled, including Spring Break trips to Florida and North
Carolina
*  No further competition and practices will take place for traditional
and non-traditional sports
*  Gallaudet’s Intramural program is suspended at this time

Random DeafSports thoughts

In 1918, there was a terrible epidemic, the Yellow
Fever.

This epidemic was so bad everywhere. It forced
Gallaudet to cancel the last three games of the
football season. Gallaudet was 4-1 before these
games were cancelled. And it did not help that
in 1919 we saw World War I. Yet, Gallaudet
survived it all.
