the football huddle

Did Gallaudet stop using the huddle, especially
after inventing it in the 1894 season?

Hard to say.

In Ed Hottle’s first season as Gallaudet coach,
the team enjoyed an unbeaten record. Jason
Coleman, the quarterback, felt the huddle
was preventing his audibles, and discussed
this issue with Hottle. Both agreed to stop
using the huddle and to rely on audibles.

Since then, Gallaudet huddle has been on and off,
depending on the quarterback, the offensive line’s
experience and the offensive system.

So, it is hard to say.

random deafsports thoughts

Why not Deaf Rugby in USA?

Model Secondary School for the Deaf fielded rugby teams
in the spring time. This sport has been discontinued.

Past MSSD rugby coach Mark Burke tried to start an
adult deaf rugby team. While turnout was great at the
start, apathy set in and he struggled to find enough
players for games. For that reason, the adult team
folded.
