random deafsports thoughts

DeafDigest Sports editor, attending the 1993 Deaflympics in
Sofia, Bulgara remembers USA defeating Croatia in a highly
fought contest.

It was an American team of athletic standouts being
assembled together at the last minute to compete
in the Deaflympics. Croatia has been playing this
sport for years and years.

Team Handball is a popular sport in Europe, not that
so in USA.

Will USA win again if Team Handball is being
assembled again? Not so sure.

Jim Phelan, the long time, and quite legendary

(NCAA-I), passed away recently.

Did he coached against Gallaudet in a basketball
game?

Yes, in the 1954-55 season Mt. St. Mary’s (at
that time, NCAA-III program) routed Gallaudet.

It was to be the only and the last time he
coached against Gallaudet.

fourth-place finish, at 343, over the four days of play, won her a spot on
the USA Women’s Golf Team at the World Championship to be held at the
Wailua Golf Course in Kauai, Hawaii. That USDGA competition will take
place on October 15-22, 2022.

At the event, she played in a separate “Texas Shootout” match and finished
first. Fellow ASGA member, Butch Lundgren, caddied for Jamie and she
“gives him lots of credit”.
