football update, or a non-update

one school has not sent in their football schedule
but their schedule was posted on the maxpreps,
and it is a mystery

it lists a game with North Carolina School for the
Deaf. This school does not have enough players to
field a stand-alone 8-man team and even worse,
unable to field a combined team with Eastern North
Carolina School for the Deaf.

DeafDigest Sports editor will follow up with that
latest addition to make sure the schedule is valid.

DeafDigest Sports thinks 21 schools may field teams

DeafDigest Sports has 12 schedules, including that
addition.

To coaches and athletic directors:
if you have already completed your schedules, please
email barry@deafdigest.com

thanks!

random deafsports thoughts

Is USA sending deaf wrestlers to the World
Deaf Wrestling championships in Turkey?

No.

Same old issue with past deaf world championship
events in different sports – no money; lack of
leadership; etc.

Klotz’ world record a surprise at trials

Matthew Klotz, a 2014 Vista del Lago graduate, didn’t qualify for the USA
Olympic swim team at the swim trials two weeks ago in Omaha, Neb.

What the 25-year-old 2020 LSU graduate did was break his own deaf world
record in the 50-meter backstroke, lowering it by two-tenths to 25.75
seconds. Born with severe hearing loss not discovered until the age of 2,
Klotz can hear with his hearing aids and can read lips. In the pool
without his hearing aids, Klotz is deaf.

What makes his world record effort more remarkable is that Klotz attended
the trials with very little training under his belt. Because of COVID and
the restrictions that followed, there was no space in the pool for him to
train at LSU
