NIL at Gallaudet?

from a DeafDigest posting earlier this week

— Gallaudet and NCAA’s NIL

Those that follow college sports know what NIL (name,
image and likeness) is all about. It means college
athletes (almost all on NCAA-I level) can get money
from endorsement deals. Gallaudet plays on the
NCAA-III level. Could Gallaudet athletes get these
NIL deals? In theory, yes, but keep in mind we have
a number of deaf-run businesses and deaf-run
corporations. Could they endorse (and pay)
Gallaudet athletes? Yes! Will this happen? Do
not know!

football updates

Football schedules have been located, either
on the school web sites or on maxprep sites
this week.

DeafDigest Sports editor now has 14 schedules.

Plus a few more schools have indicated fielding
teams this fall but their schedules have not
been turned in.

Four schools are not fielding teams this fall.

This will be Texas’ only 8-man game of the season.

See Greco-Roman wrestling (below)

This type of wrestling is not popular in USA,
but 3-time NCAA-III champion Matt Hamill
was interested in this sport. His goal was
to focus on Greco-Roman wrestling in the
future – but got sidetracked. He then became
a one-time high ranking MMA fighter!

a deaf club was fined

we have read about Great Britain fined because one of its
fans pointed a laser at Denmark goalie during game-deciding
shoot out.

Can’t happen to a deaf club?

It did.

In the early sixties at the CAAD basketball tournament,
two rival teams played each other – Detroit Association
of the Deaf and Motor City Association of the Deaf.

Can’t remember the exact details, but a fan of one of these
two teams threw a firecracker on the court during a time out.
It disrupted the game flow and everyone was unnerved.

The angry CAAD officers investigated and identified the fan
that rooted for one of the Detroit teams – and fined that
deaf club for that reason!

elite baseball player

Tyson Gillies, currently a free agent but with years
of experience in minor league baseball, is a member
of the Canadian national baseball team. That team
competed in the pre-Olympics qualifying tournament.

Gillies never made it to the majors but has played
on the Class AAA level in the past.
