Florida football

Tonight we battled hard but fell to the visiting Cougars of Merritt Island
Christian School 24-60.  We hung in there and traded blows with them in
the first half,
heading into the break down 24-30.  We couldn’t keep up with them in the
2nd half.  We did manage a couple of good offensive drives but couldn’t
punch it in the
endzone.

Again, there were some bright spots and areas that sorely needs
improvement immediately.  I would like to give a shout out to some of our
youngsters for their first
playing time tonight and for doing good things- Frantz Valbrun ran hard
and showed a bright future, JaMorien Scott put himself in good positions
all night on the
defensive side, DeCedrick McKenzie made an incredible open field tackle
right before halftime to prevent MICS from scoring, and finally Darren
Groome ran hard with
the ball when given the chance to.

We’re going to keep our chins up high and work harder in practice.  That’s
where victories are earned- on the practice field.

Next game is HOME on 9/16 vs St. Johns Country Day School, 7pm.

Fremont football

part of newspaper story

Branson (1-0) at CA School of the Deaf (1-0): 6 p.m., Fremont
Both teams are entering this first-time matchup coming off of victories —
Branson defeated South Fork 48-8 while CSD rolled past John Swett, 36-6.
The Bulls picked up some much-needed varsity experience last week after
having missed out on their entire 2020 campaign. “The offensive line and
defensive line played very well,” Branson coach Max Pond said. “The
quarterback (George Gale) played really well. … We’ve been really focusing
on defense. I think if we can put that aspect together, we’re going to be
a really tough team to beat.”

Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the
team captain of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Good idea for a rookie to become a team
caption, telling long time old timers
what to?

No.

Gallaudet baseball coach, many years ago,
selected a first year player as the team
captain. The coach’s choice upset many
veterans.

He was a pretty good player his first year
but that was it for him. As a sophomore he
was kicked off the team for disobeying his
coach.

As a junior, he was academically ineligible
to play.

As a senior, he got hurt playing football
and was too injured to play baseball.

In his final season at Gallaudet, he was
tired and fed up and decided not to play
baseball again!

So much for being a first year captain
as a freshman.
