3-1 (25-8, 15-25, 25-17, 25-21) win against Prairie Seeds Academy tonight.

We made up our loss against Prairie Seeds Academy from last week. Great
win in 4 set! Again, we played good defense and battled some good rallies
tonight. Also, we
attacked the ball well against their great defensive. We continued our
aggressive serving and hitting as well.

St Mary’s soccer

Three games in one week appeared to be too much for the Bisons to handle
having lost in the final seconds against Christian Academy of Western NY
(CAWNY). The
Bisons took an early 2 goal lead off of Ethan Antone’s left foot. However,
as the game continued our boys sat back and allowed our opponent to chip a
way at the
score until the match was tied 3-3 with 5 minutes remaining. CAWNY now had
all the momentum and the Bisons were back on their heels. With less than 1
minute
remaining, our opponent completed their comeback by scoring the game
winner. The Bisons learned a hard lesson today but it will hopefully make
us a better team
moving forward. Our next match is next week Monday at home against NFCAA
league opponent Chesterton Academy.

Overall Record: 3-2
ESDAA Record: 1-0
NFCAA Record: 2-2

Individual Stats:
Ethan Antone: 2 goals
Farhad Ghorbani: 1 goal

St Mary’s volleyball

The Lady Bisons came home from their first away game, with their first win
of the season. We headed out on the road to take on Tapestry Charter
school in what we
assumed would be a fairly even match up. Our girls went in strong,
motivated and ready to work together. The game was really decided by our
“on point” service
skills through out the game. During the first set, Briona Zuppa earned 4
service aces, and Zarielle Ormsby and Kioney Alvira-Jurado each earned 5
serving aces which
earned the team a combined 14 points just from their serves alone. The
second set Julie Bronneberg earned her own 4 service aces and introduced
the world to her
first ever in game overhand serve (we’re hoping to see more of these as
she develops). The third set, Julia and Briona picked up another 5 serving
aces each to
round out the game.

Other than some amazing serving, the girls have really stepped up their
coverage and “quick feet” on the court. Kearah Kelly, Elianna Sanders and
Aleyshka Rivera
both had some amazing close net plays throughout the game and Kioney
Alvira-Jurado and Zarielle Ormsby have really taken over the team’s
defensive play positions.

Many people have commented on this teams cooperation and positive attitude
and we thank you for recognizing our girls hard work. Every game they come
together a
little bit more, so we can’t wait to see how they do next week. Tuesday,
the Lady Bisons will take on Central Baptist in an attempt to come back
from their first
game defeat. Please congratulate the girls for their hard win and wish
them luck for their next two (away) games.

random deafsports thoughts

Did you know?  The football huddle we use today was invented by football
player, Paul Hubbard at Galludet University when they faced off against
another deaf team. The huddle is now used all over the world by many sport
teams.

Huddle used all over the world by many sports teams?

wrong, wrong, wrong!

Football uses the huddle. Other sports don’t. During time outs, yes
they discuss strategy, but huddle while ball is in play? Wrong, wrong
and wrong.
