St Mary’s volleyball

The Lady Bisons took on Gow for the first time ever yesterday afternoon.
After taking a few weeks off due to cancelations and postponements, our
ladies were eager
to get back out on the court. Unfortunately, due to the injury of two of
our starters, the Lady Bisons were starting with a new and younger lineup.
Unfortunately
they couldn’t seem to find their groove and fell in three straight sets.
Emilylynn Spillman led the team with 8 successful service points overall.
Zarielle Ormsby
really stepped up and took on a defensive leadership role, trying to cover
everywhere at once. The girls will try again in their last two attempts of
the season
next week Monday and Tuesday. Please wish them luck in their last week.

random deafsports thoughts

from a tweet:
William Hoy was the first of 7 deaf players who have
played major league baseball.

note:
seven? Really! Don’t know

the Dodgers had a pitcher – Ben Wade; word got around
that he had serious hearing loss, but to what degree –
profound or severe or moderate or mild?

He had a repuation in the club house as a loner,
rarely mingling with his teammates.

What became of him when he retired?  He became alongtime director of
scouting operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers during a period that saw
the team win four world championships.

Only deaf person to reach management levels in major league
baseball? Again, do not know!
