Deaf Sports Trivia
Q. Gary Klingensmith (see story in this edition) coached
the Gallaudet football team in the 1965, 1966 and 1967
seasons. His Gallaudet football teams won four games during
his three seasons. Each victory was special. Why?
A. List of Gary’s special wins:
1965 – defeated DC Teachers College to snap a 25-game losing
streak
1966 – defeated Frostburg, the only time Gallaudet beat them
in a long series (Gallaudet no longer plays Frostburg)
1967 – defeated Shepherd, the only time Gallaudet beat them
in a long series (Gallaudet no longer plays Shepherd, which
now plays NCAA-II)
1967 – defeated Lorton, the only time Gallaudet beat them
in a long series (Lorton is no longer in existence, and it
was Gallaudet’s first 2-win season since 1959)
