Gallaudet volleyball

Bison begin season with a split at Battlefield Classic

GETTYSBURG, Pa. . A new season got underway for Gallaudet University
as the women’s volleyball team split the first two matches of the 2014
campaign here Friday at the Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg, Pa. The
Bison defeated Marietta in straight sets before it fell to nationally
ranked Eastern University, 3-0, in the evening.

High standards continue to fuel Gallaudet’s women’s volleyball program

WASHINGTON . The Gallaudet University women’s volleyball program has dominated
the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) for the past four years since it
joined the conference in 2010. The Bison volleyball team holds high standards,
battling tough non-conference foes as well as claiming the NEAC title four years
straight. High standards the Bison hope to continue this year.

Gallaudet women’s soccer

Gallaudet wins season opener in Coach Offreda’s debut

WASHINGTON . In her debut as Gallaudet University’s new women’s soccer
head coach Liza Offreda and her team celebrated a 2-1 victory over
non-conference foe Trinity Washington University on Friday afternoon
at Hotchkiss Field. This is the first season opener win for the Bison
since 2010 when they beat Washington Adventist University, 3-0.

High School Football: Orioles drop opener

For the first time since 2002, Maryland School for the Deaf lost
its season opener in football.

The Orioles could not overcome a size and strength deficit against
visiting Silver Oak Academy and fell, 30-14, Friday night

Slovenian deaf basketball player Miha Zupan set to compete at FIBA men’s World Cup

The Slovenian Deaf Sports Association announce today that deaf basketball
player Miha Zupan was set to compete at FIBA men.s World Cup for his
native country. Zupan is the only deaf player in the competition.

The competition is scheduled to get underway tomorrow in Spain, with
Slovenia scheduled to play Australia in Gran Canaria. In the lead up to
the competition, Zupan participated in friendlies in Ljubljana against
Brazil, Iran and Lithuania. In a preparation game before those against
Canada in July, he scored 9 points

Zupan also represented Slovenia at the 2010 FIBA Men.s World Cup in Turkey
where his team finished eighth. That year, he was also named the World
Deaf Athlete of the Year by the International Committee of Sports for the

Born deaf, Zupan began his professional career in 2006 in the Slovenian
league, before going to play for a professional team in Greece in 2009.
Later he played for teams in Russia and Turkey.
