Monsignor Donovan announces Shawn Self as new football coach

For the fourth time in the last four seasons, the Monsignor Donovan
football team will have a new head coach, but Athens native Shawn Self
hopes to bring some degree of constancy to the program.

Self, 28, was officially named the Rams coach in an announcement to the
team on Monday. He succeeds Jason Miller, who also served as the
school’s athletic director but resigned after one season as head
football coach. The Rams went 2-9 in 2016.

Gallaudet University’s Ashmore and Frez-Albrecht honored with 2016-17 NEAC Inspirational Awards

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)
announced its first two recipients of the 2016-17 NEAC Inspirational Award
on Wednesday and Gallaudet University rising seniors Lawjen Ashmore
(Fairbanks, Alaska) and Faye Frez-Albrecht (Canton, Conn.) were honored.

Getting to know Yannick Hanfmann\

Enjoy the silence. Yannick Hanfmann, hearing impaired since his birth,
plays in Gstaad his eighth ATP match and his first semifinal. The
25-year-old reached the quarter-finals at Munich in his ATP World Tour
debut, as he saved a match point to Bellucci before losing to Bautista
Agut.

OK Baseball Instructor Hopes Lessons Go Beyond The Diamond

TULSA, Oklahoma – Baseball season may be over for high school kids but
training continues. And at one Oklahoma facility, the owner’s lessons
don’t stop on the diamond.

The sounds of baseball are distinct to most, but because of a hearing
issue, Geoffrey Rottmayer had a different experience.

“I was born with hearing loss, so going outside, taking the ears off was
just kind of a way for me to just enjoy life,” Rottmayer said

Tuilomani Defies All Odds (women’s Australian Rules Football)

It was a double treat for AFL Fiji Vonu women’s national rep Halamehi
Tuilomani who was part of the team that presented their i-tatau to
President, Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote at Borron House
yesterday.

The national men’s and women’s team will leave next week Wednesday for
the 2017 AFL International Cup in Melbourne, Australia from August 5-19.

The 24-year-old from Jiliva, Nakasaleka in Kadavu who is deaf and mute,
has been playing AFL since 2013.
