Phoenix football

will play three deaf opponents and their
backgrounds are interesting – Colorado
is a 6-man program; Washington is a
8-man program; Riverside is a 11-man
program.

Normally the home team dictates the
playing rules (6 man or 8 man or
11 man).

Washington was left without an annual
deaf opponent when Oregon dropped football,
and so the Phoenix game came in handy.

Dave Huber returns as head coach; he is
being assisted by Phil Major. The team
is looking for a second assistant.

ouch, a $117,500 fine for Florida’s opponent

https://www.news4jax.com/sports/high-school/providence-school-reprimanded-fined-over-violations-fhsaa-says

Florida is mentioned:
That same school year, the Providence volleyball team went 11-6, winning
their district that included the same schools as the basketball team, plus
the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.  (Florida is not involved
with the heavy fine).

DeafDigest Sports knows of several deaf schools
that have been fined in the past for not following
state high school association rules. Sorry, not
telling which schools have been punished. It
includes one school that was fined last season.

Elite deaf athletes

from time to time DeafDigest Sports checks on
elite deaf athletes (professional, Olympic level,
national level) to see if they are still
actively participating. Many of these elite
athlete profiles are not being updated on
the web. If this is the case, they are
removed from the list.

One such elite athlete being removed for
reason of inactivity (or non-update) is
Ivan Kanyesigye, Uganda, on the national
billiards level.

………………………………….

deaf rugby

next year, the world deaf rugby sevens
tournament is taking place in Australia.

Information is scant, but what is known is
Great Britain is sending its team.

not sure if sevens tournament is part of
the other world deaf rugby championships.

This other world deaf rugby championships
is not part of the International Committee
of Sports for the Deaf governance for
one reason – the 55dB hearing loss rule
in the better ear. This rugby group allows
players with low hearing losses (20dB)
to play and has refused to revise its
hearing eligibility rules.
