erroneous basketball headline

a tweet showed a headline which said:
Bradley Miller – A Deaf Basketball Player Who Didn’t
Play Basketball Until College!

note:
Bradley Miller played Gallaudet basketball
in the seasons between 2002-03 and 2005-06

standing 6’7 tall, he was considered one of the
most important players on the team

Is the headline true?

According to sources, he played middle school
basketball before transferring to the EDCO program
at Newton North HS (MA). He did not play basketball
at that high school, but resumed basketball after
enrolling at Gallaudet.

a 6’7 player not playing high school basketball?

Not so surprising. Many high school coaches avoid
mainstreamed students that want to play sports.

random deafsports thoughts

Why do non-athletes lie about their “athletic”
accomplishments?

Years ago, a deaf principal of a deaf school
told DeafDigest Sports editor that he was a
conference wrestling champion while attending
Gallaudet.

Truth was that he was never a wrestler and
a search of past Gallaudet wrestling rosters
did not indicate him as a member of these
wrestling teams, let alone being a conference
champion.

Why tell a lie in the first place?

a defensive end that made good in the banking world

as a young man, in the football seasons of
1977 through 1979, James Meisser was a defensive
end with the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.
As a senior he was twice the Conference Defensive
Player of the Week. At end of season he was the 2nd
Team All-Conference.

Meisser is deaf, but knows no ASL and communicates
orally.

He owns the Hiawatha National Bank, which has
branches in the state of Wisconsin.
