Florida football opponent

Merritt Island Christian Cougars

part of newspaper story:

About six months into his job as head football coach for Merritt Island
Christian, Greg Gage has learned some things about being in charge of the
program.

“It’s stressful,” he said Friday, the fifth day of official practice for
Florida’s high school program. “Things are a little bit behind schedule
from where I wanted to be, but it’s coming together. It’s just going to
take time.”

note:
Florida Deaf defeated Merritt Island 27-6 last season. Florida
Deaf has a new football coach this season – Travis Homewood

private QB coach

there was a story today that was titled:
For young QBs, private training is now seen as essential: ‘There are
coaches everywhere’

At the most scrutinized position in sports, year-round quarterback
training starts early for aspiring high school and college passers.

note:
Do we have private quarterback coaches that are deaf?

There is one – Craig Bryden, West Springfield, MA,
who is deaf. He formerly worked at Governor Baxter
School for the Deaf and American School for the
Deaf before turning his focus to football

……………………………………..

random deafsports thoughts

Most high school football coaches do not coach
players that eventually play on the NCAA-I level
and on the pro level (NFL and CFL)

Gary Klingensmith, the long time high school
football coach that is deaf, had never coached
a NFL player. He has coached just a few NCAA-I
players, but they were invited walk-ons and
were essentially special teams players.

This is not a reflection on Craig Bryden’s
QB coaching skills.

state archery champions

late news but from 47 School for the Deaf (NYC)
alumni newsletter

Shooting Tigers of 47 win 2018 NYS Olympic Archery
championship

the archery team won the state conference championship
for the third consecutive year, and four of the team’s
top shooters were selected as regional all-stars

team finished the regular season undefeated for the second
time in four years

note:
story was not clear if the deaf school won all-classes
state archery championship or if it was small schools
championship

…………………………………..

Deaflympics winners from India

newspaper headline

A Year After Getting Their Medals, Indian Deaflympics Winners Are Still
Waiting for Prize Money

“We keep going to offices of sports ministries, in Haryana and the
central government, but nothing happens”
