Texas volleyball

TSD Rangers Volleyball participated in the AISD Tournament last weekend. On
the first day of the tournament, the Rangers lost to Midlothian HS (21-25,
20-25), Rudder HS (16-25, 7-25), and Stevens HS (23-25, 13-25).

On the next day, the Rangers won the first two games against Eastside HS
(25-14, 25-9) and Travis HS (25-22, 25-22) before losing the 3rd game
against Lyndon Baines Johnson HS (15-25, 25-22, 18-25).

TSD played against LBJ again on Saturday losing in two sets (21-25, 20-25).

Record to date is 2-5


Texas fall sports

Texas School for the Deaf kicked off their football and volleyball camps
last Sunday with 42 boys and 21 girls. The players are eager to have a
great fall season!

TSD High School Football team is led by Head Coach John Moore and his
assistant coaches Bill Jacobs, Joshua Moore and Harvey Nathanson.
The football team will compete against two deaf schools on their schedule,
Model Secondary School for the Deaf and Maryland School for the Deaf. TSD
will travel to face the MSSD Eagles on September 21st and the Rangers will
welcome MSD Orioles on September 28th. First district game will be on
October 20th against Geneva Boerne at TSD. This game will be our
homecoming game.

Coach RJ Kaufman will lead the Lady Rangers high school volleyball team
for the 14th season, and his assistant coaches are Marlene Etkie and Janna
Oshman.  The volleyball team will play 20 games and five tournaments this
fall.   They are working diligently to fill in some key positions as they
lost three key players to graduation last year.  Their first district game
will be on September 13th against Hill Country Christian at their school.
Their homecoming opponent is San Marcos Panthers.

The high school XC team will have their first practice on August 20th.
Head Coach Nick Bannon is eager to start his sixth season with some key
runners returning.   They will participate in seven XC invitationals this
fall.   The XC team is looking forward to participating and competing with
other Deaf schools for the National XC Deaf Prep at the Indiana School for
the Deaf campus on September 29th.

The Middle School Football camp will start tomorrow for one week, August
13th to 18th. Coach Daniel Skipper will return for the 2nd year as the
middle school tackle football coach. He is very much looking forward to
working with players this season. Their first game is on Thursday, August
30th at TSD.

Is there discrimination against deaf referees in

A good number of them are back judges. A deaf
back judge stayed in that position for many
seasons without being moved to other refereeing
positions. That deaf back judge claimed that
discrimination was very strong.
