Gallaudet’s Mason Gooch earns ECFC Defensive Player of the Week honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC)
announced its weekly honors for the week of Sept. 3 and junior linebacker
Mason Gooch (Mount Sterling, Ky.) was awarded Defensive Player of the Week
for his performance last weekend in Reading, Pa..

Gooch set the tone for the Gallaudet defense last Saturday at Alvernia
University. The junior linebacker finished with eight tackles (five solo)
and 2.5 sacks for a loss of 25 yards as the Bison drove the Golden Wolves
back early on in the opening game of the season. He also recovered one
fumble for the Bison, who lost 26-21 on the road.

Maritime (N.Y.) senior quarterback Thomas Wright was named ECFC Offensive
Player of the Week, Dean College freshman quarterback Terrell Watts was
selected as ECFC Rookie of the Week and his teammate, junior Julian
Burris, was picked as ECFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

This is Gallaudet’s first ECFC Player of the Week award this season and
the first for Gooch.

Gallaudet heads south this weekend to face Greensboro College (0-1) in a
non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m.

random deafsports thoughts

an athletic director at a deaf school asked why cannot
deaf vs deaf soccer schedules be printed in DeafDigest

DeafDigest Sports editor tried it about 15-20 years ago
and faced resistance from soccer coaches, and this
effort was abandoned.

Maybe somthing to do with football teams playing
once a week, and soccer schools playing at least
twice a week.
