Marie Philip volleyball

Location: Marie Philip School, Framingham, MA
Score: Gann 3, MPS 1 (25-14, 23-25, 27-25, 25-20)

Today the Marie Philip Lady Ghosts hosted Gann Academy in an Independent
Girls’ Conference (IGC) league match.

The Red Heifers had an aggressive net play that surprised MPS at first.
We spent the 14-25 first set loss adjusting out play for subsequent sets.

The adjustments in the 2nd set paid off and we led by one point for most
of the match, but could not convert late service opportunities into
service points.  We conceded that set 23-25.

Our girls did not panic despite the 2-0 hole and a 21-17 deficit late in
the 3rd set.  That time we converted late serving opportunities and were
able to outlast Gann 27-25 to win the first of hopefully many sets this
season.

In the 4th set the Lady Ghosts continued to exhibit very good decision
making, but for the early parts of that set our players’ individual
executions and serving did not cooperate with those decision making.  We
fell a bit behind early in the set but tried hard to catch up late in that
set.  The Red Heifers held on to win the set 25-20 and the match 3 sets to
1.  We thank Gann for their usual great sportsmanship and look forward to
the rematch later in this season.

The MPS Lady Ghosts’ next match is a nonconference match at Eagle Hill
Academy this Saturday at 1 P.M.  Our IGC and overall record is now 0-2.

random deafsports thoughts

DeafDigest Sports editor never forgot the comments
by Gallaudet president Leonard Elstad, years ago
way back in the sixties – that Gallaudet football
exists for one purpose – to teach football players
to become football coaches at deaf schools. True
or not true? Some of the best deaf schools coaches
over the years were Gallaudet graduates but
never played Gallaudet football!
