continuing notice – for coaches and athletic directors

Football, soccer and volleyball All-American honors

All invited schools have been contacted by DeafDigest Sports
editor for their nominations (football, soccer and volleyball).

Other schools that have never contributed news to
DeafDigest Sports have not been invited.

There have been some non-responses from the invited schools.

The announcements, for each fall sport, will be announced in
due time.

If and when the announcements have been made, if you see
schools not on the All-American list, then non-responses
may be the reason.

Thank you for understanding.

Sole scheduled footbal game

Fri Nov 9 Texas at John Paul II Catholic
this is their last scheduled regular season game

all other schools have completed their football

(TAPPS) then their season continues (up to 4 possible
games as long as they win and advance).

random deafsports thoughts

from a past Texas School for the Deaf football player

My TSD football team beat Waco Reicher twice, but we lost the
1987 game with them at our home field. A 4th quarter punt
attempt by our punter went bad because of a center snap that
went over his head!

302 career wins and no more

Football coach Gary Klingensmith, who is deaf and
played football at Penn State and coached three
seasons at Gallaudet, has closed out his football
career with 302 high school wins in 50 seasons.

Plus 4 coaching wins at Gallaudet.

His last coaching game was a Juniata HS (PA) 28-19
win over Newport HS.

deafness and deaf auto racers

as edited for brevity from the Autosport Plus publication

The challenges facing disabled racing drivers

A deaf racer cannot wear the CI because of the crash helmet
he wears. A perfect crash helmet for the deaf racer has
not been yet designed!

Deafness has these disadvantages – cannot hear engine
noisem, cannot hear tire noise, cannot hear wind nosie.

Also cannot hear if there are racers behind him, trying
to go past him!

note:
Greg Gunderson, a Gallaudet student, racing during the
summer months, won the South Dakota sprint championship.
He used the prize money to pay off Gallaudet tuition bills
during his senior year! That was during the late eighties.
