Football, soccer and volleyball All-American honors

All invited schools have been contacted by DeafDigest Sports
editor for their nominations (football, soccer and volleyball).

Other schools that have never contributed news to
DeafDigest Sports have not been invited.

There have been some non-responses from the invited schools.

The announcements, for each fall sport, will be announced in
due time.

If and when the announcements have been made, if you see
schools not on the All-American list, then non-responses
may be the reason.

Thank you for understanding.

dedicating this edition to a departed racer

DeafDigest Sports dedicates this edition to Kitty O’Neil
that departed us. She was deaf and during the seventies
and eighties, she was a land-speed racer, racing special
cars as fast as 600 miles per hour.

When not racing cars she was a Hollywood movies stunts
woman.

Sole scheduled footbal game

Fri Nov 9 Texas at John Paul II Catholic
this is their last scheduled regular season game

all other schools have completed their football
seasons.

If Texas is invited to the post season playoffs,
(TAPPS) then their season continues (up to 4 possible
games as long as they win and advance).

Fremont football & cross country

The football season has ended with a 49-8 loss at Fort Bragg.  The score
was not the indication of what happened in the game as CSD moved the ball
well and threatened but was unable to finish drives and had costly fumbles
and penalties.  On the other side, Fort Bragg is a tremendous program who
has been there and done that at a higher level year in and out.  We all
had a bittersweet moment after the game and the long drive back thanking
our seniors and the cheerleaders for leading us to a memorable 9-3 season.

This week will be a quiet week in Athletics with the exception of the
Cross Country Championships tomorrow as all of our winter sports will be
conducting tryouts.

Athlete of the Week – MILES GONZALEZ, our Junior Quarterback and Captain
knows that he plays in a position with hefty expectations and is subject
to a lot of criticism.  However, Miles has steadily improved his play
every week thanks to his hard-working attitude by always being on time to
practice, weightlifting, and film session.  In his last three games, we
saw his play go up to  a completely new level and Miles finished the
season with 1,549 passing yards, 18 touchdowns to 8 interceptions, and 60%
completions which is a difficult number at just over 200 attempts.  We
will look to build from this momentum and balanced offense over to next

Model volleyball

We are in the DCSAA First Round playoffs starting today

note:
DeafDigest Sports editor thought volleyball season among
all deaf schools is over. He is wrong, because of Model’s
playoff participation.

New York (Fanwood) soccer

We played against Stevenson for playoff. We won 4-0. We played against
Winston Prep for Championship. We lost 0-1. Our final record is 14-4-1

random deafsports thoughts

Kitty O’Neil was a diver and was on the USA team during the
1965 Deaflympics.

Unfortunately, she dived unofficially due to insufficent
entries among deaf women divers from other nations.

She was pretty much upset upon learning that her diving
events would be unofficial, and not official, and wished
she had stayed home instead of making the trip from
her home in California to Washington, DC
