Hoy Field gets lit up for the first time

WASHINGTON – It was a Gallaudet University baseball program first here
Monday night as the Bison hosted The Catholic University of America for
the first night game at Hoy Field. The new lights at Hoy Field, installed
this past winter, were officially used tonight for a nine-inning
non-conference game. The visitors defeated the Bison, 23-2, on a cool and
wet Monday night.

Bison light up Tigers in first night game

WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University hosted its first night game at the GU
Softball Complex here Monday night as the Bison played host Trinity
Washington University in a non-conference doubleheader. The Bison (10-12)
dispatched of the Tigers (0-10) quickly in both games; 17-3 and 10-0 as
they concluded after the fifth inning. The festive atmosphere was dampened
by rain showers and cooler temperatures as a cold front moved through the
nation’s capital on Monday evening.

Fremont sports

Hi everybody, it was great to see you all on Saturday at the 12th Berg
Seeger Classic at Tak Fudenna Stadium.  We all did a great job last year
but somehow was able to outdo ourselves with incredible volunteer
support.  Out of 19 teams, CSD Boys came in 2nd place, losing to Texas
by one point and CSD Girls finished 3rd.  Be on the lookout for the CSD
Berg Seeger summary soon.

Athlete of the Week – Calel Aramboles.  Not yet a senior, Calel is
already one of the most decorated Berg Seeger athlete ever.  On
Saturday, he won his third straight Thomas Berg – Male Field Athlete
Award as he brought Gold in both Shotput and Discus for the third
straight year.  A thrilling moment was when his long-time contender,
Deven Thompson a strong 6-foot-10 Athlete from New Mexico topped Calel’s
Berg Seeger record of last year from 49’4.25″ to 52’08” in the shotput
and then Calel was able to throw one at 54’10.25″ at home in front of
long-time CSD alumnus, coaches, and historians.  This set the new Berg
Seeger Record and broke the oldest CSD record on our boards that has
been held for 83 years by Joe Hill from 1936.

The Bisons travelled to Freemont, California this past weekend for the
12th Annual Berg/Seeger Classic. Our student athletes did a great job of
representing the
school and performed quiet well. It should be noted that this was our
first meet of the season and we have not had many opportunities to get
outside for practice
due to a wet/cold WNY weather conditions.

There were 19 schools in attendance at this year?s Berg/Seeger.

The Lady Bisons(Kioney Alvira-Jurado and Cami Cole)finished in 7th place
out of 16 girls teams!

The Bisons (Givon Blackwell, Kassim Kassim, Ryan Brzezinski, Isa Habeeb,
Christian Lawrence and Adnan Abdi)finished in 10th place out of 18
schools.

random deafsports thoughts

What is the difference between Berg/Seeger and the
typical local championship track meets?

For some schools, the Berg/Seeger is their first track
meet of the season! Impossible to maintain top season
form in the season’s opening meet.

The typical local championship track meets take place
at the end of the local track season.

Big difference?

Yes!

The Cincinnati Dragons varsity wheelchair basketball team finished 5th
place in the nation at the National Wheelchair Basketball Association
National Tournament in Chicago last week.  The Dragons finished the
tournament with a 3-1 record, defeating the #7 ranked Fairfax Falcons, #11
Austin, and #12 Cleveland Cavs while losing to the #3 team Minnesota.
Kerwin Haake, a sophomore at Kentucky School for the Deaf, was the team’s
second leading scorer at the national tournament with 44 points in 4 games
including a 20 point performance against the #7 ranked Fairfax Falcons.
This concludes the season for the Dragons who finish with a 32-9 record.
The Dragons return all 5 of their starters next season and hope to be
contenders for the national championship in 2020.
