If you’ll be part of the crowd at Nissan Stadium, understanding referees’
signals on the sidelines will ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the
excitement. Here are the 10 hand signals you need to know so you can gain
fluency in football’s “sign language” — and so you know exactly when to
start cheering.

A bad Dummy Hoy fact

Dummy Hoy was not the first deaf major league player,
yet many, many people think he was.

A tweet today said Hoy was the first. Not true!

The honor of being the first deaf major leaguer
belongs to Ed Dundon, a mediocre pitcher that
pitched two seasons in the majors years before
Hoy came up.

college deaf athete, softball

Morgan Leinstock, deaf, will be a freshman
pitcher with the Arizona State University
softball team.

She is said to be an outstanding pitcher.

……………………………………………….

elite deaf athlete, rugby

part of newspaper story

Claudia Fulton of Aylesford, who is hearing impaired, has been selected
for Canada’s U-20 rugby team.

AYLESFORD, N.S. — Claudia Fulton won’t be able to hear the national anthem
when she represents Canada in rugby later this month in England, but that
won’t diminish her pride in being there.

The 19-year-old Aylesford woman, who also plays rugby and basketball for
her university and baseball for her province, was born with central neural
hearing loss.
