finally

finally DeafDigest Sports has all the football
schedules on hand.

Just two things to point out –

#1 – two schools that turned in their schedules
had their seasons cancelled

#2 – not all athletic directors/coaches turned
in their schedules; DeafDigest Sports had to
get these missing schedules via either maxpreps or
the school’s own athletics web site

Fremont football

part of newspaper story

NCS football playoffs limited to just 8 teams in each bracket

Days of teams with one or two wins making the North Coast Section football
playoffs have gone the way of the dinosaur.

Under a new format adopted by the North Coast Section for use this season,
there will be seven divisions, eight if you count 8-person football. Only
eight teams from each bracket will make the playoffs, which will last
three weeks, beginning Nov. 8-9 and concluding with championship games on
Nov. 22-23.

St. Vincent is in Division 7 along with Berean Christian, California
School for the Deaf, Clear Lake, Cloverdale, El Molino, Ferndale,
Healdsburg, Hoopa Valley, John Swett, McKinleyville, Oakland Military
Institute, Salesian, St. Helena, Stellar Prep and Willits.

note:
it is different in Indiana. All teams enter the end of season sectionals,
regardless of their records. In other words, a winless 0-9 team enters the
sectionls!

second round Tuesday. Third-seeded Hubert Hurkacz (Poland) rallied for a
4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Lee.

death of the huddle

part of a posting

The current trend over the last few decades has been calling plays faster
from the sideline and not huddling. This gives the defense less time to
rest or sub in players, giving the offense more mismatches.

Today, the no-huddle is used mostly in college football, but it also has
been used in the NFL. Teams use different signals to share their plays
instead of sign language, so there isn’t the fear of deaf players stealing
signals like Hubbard had to deal with, though there isn’t a high number of
deaf players in college or professional football right now.

note:
while Paul Hubbard invented the huddle, it was Jason Coleman, a
past Gallaudet quarterback, that ended it! He liked to call
quick ASL audibles prior to the snap and the huddle would have
messed up with it. Ed Hottle, the new Gallaudet coach at that
time, agreed with Coleman.

Did it help?

Yes.

Coleman led Gallaude to an unbeaten season, the only
time in Gallaudet football history!

elite deaf athlete, tire changer

Christopher Bederka, who is deaf, is a professional
auto racing tire changer, during pit stops. He
changes tires for the XCalibur Pit School.

Actually XCalibur Pit School is not a racing
team per se; it trains aspiring drivers to
become professional racers.

Do not know if Bederka is learning to become
a tire changer or if he is employed by the
school to change tires of these young and
aspiring racers?

Are tire changers considered athletes?

Yes and no.

Furniture movers are not athletes, even though they lift heavy
furnitures

Weighlifters and power lifters are athletes, as they lift
heavy weights.

so, you decide!
