Gallaudet women’s soccer

Gallaudet’s Hannah Neild selected to CoSIDA’s Academic All-District
Women’s Soccer First Team

WASHINGTON  – The 2019 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by
CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), were released
and Gallaudet University sophomore Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) was
named to the District 2 first team for Division III. Neild will now be
added to the national ballot for the chance to earn Academic All-America
honors, which will be announced on Tuesday, December 3.

Neild becomes the first CoSIDA Academic All-District® women’s soccer team
honoree to represent Gallaudet, the world’s only university with programs
and services specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing
students.

Neild is one of 11 selections on the Division III – District 2 team. Neild
is the lone representative from the District of Columbia and the North
Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).

Neild, an education major, has the fourth highest GPA (3.98) among
District 2 honorees. Neild was selected to the 2019 NEAC women’s soccer
all-conference second team earlier this week.

This is not Neild’s first appearance on a CoSIDA All-District® Team. In
fact, Neild has earned all-district honors in two other sports including
women’s basketball and softball last season. She ended up earning CoSIDA
Academic All-America® honors in both sports and last March, she was named
CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division III
women’s basketball.

random deafsports thoughts

When football team extend their seasons, reaching
deep into the state playoffs, does this affect their
upcoming basketball games?

It happened to the 1960-61 North Carolina School for
the Deaf boys’ basketball team. The 1960 football
team reached all the way to the state championship
finals (before being defeated).

With just two days of basketball practice, the
team had to play its first game of the season.

Football player Ed Gobble (who didn’t play
basketball) said the football team wasn’t
worried about basketball; they were too focused
on the playoff games!
