GU loses last game of season to Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – The Gallaudet University football team suffered its worst
loss of the 2019 season here Saturday as Anna Maria College rolled to a
53-14 win in the season finale between these two Eastern Collegiate
Football Conference (ECFC) teams at Caparso Field.

The Bison got on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter as GU
marched 65 yards on eight plays, its longest drive in the game, and capped
it with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore Cassmeir Hutchinson
(Chesapeake, Va.). Hutchinson finished the game with 97 rushing yards on
11 carries. He had a 34-yard rush in that second quarter scoring drive

GU reached double figures when sophomore quarterback Logan Taylor (South
Prince George, Va.) threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide
receiver Mitchell Dolinar (Las Vegas, Nev.) at the 8:02 mark in the fourth
quarter. Sophomore kicker Jack Gray (Atherton, Calif.) made the
extra-point attempt

Redshirt junior linebacker Mason Gooch (Mount Sterling, Ky.) led the Bison
defense with eight tackles (six solo) and 2.5 tackles for a loss of nine
yards

This marked the last game for Gallaudet’s senior class who include Damonte
Bray (Clinton, Md.), Alphonso Johnson III (Warminster, Pa.), Kenneth
Peters (Indianapolis, Ind.), Reid Kelly (De Soto, Kan.), Everett Polzin
(Frederick, Md.), Jaquan Thomas (Midway, Ga.) and Matthew Cracraft
(Ferris, Texas)

random deafsports talk

It is always worrisome whether the popularity of
gambling in sports would affect actual athletic
contests.

It happened several times in the past with college
basketball.

In 1951, a Manhattan College player refused to accept
a bribe to throw the game against DePaul.

DePaul, at that time, had a deaf player – Bill
Schyman!  He has recalled an occasion when his
team arrived at the home airport (Chicago)
to face a mob of newspaper reporters, wanting
to know if DePaul has been involved with
point shaving!
