Florida girls’ basketball

part of newspaper story

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind’s girls basketball team won
21 games, clinched the Mason-Dixon Conference title and beat St. Joseph
for the first time in decades last year without the help of any seniors.

Guard Olivia Brown (11.7 points, 3.5 assists, 4.7 steals, 4.3 rebounds)
and forward Lourdine Jordonne (11.8 points, 10.7 rebounds), both of whom
were DeafDigest All-Americans last year, are among the returnees.

“From the day one of 2019-2020 basketball season our girls have been
working tremendously hard to improve their skills in basketball,” wrote
FSDB coach Joy Moers. “The girls truly love the game. We have a very good
chance to make this a special year if our team continues to believe in
achieving team and individual goals at both practices and games.”

The Dragons will play in the Clerc Classic XX in January, the premier
tournament for deaf schools. A strong showing there could help the Dragons
in their quest to unseat the Texas School for the Deaf as the DeafDigest
Team of the Year
