RISD Basketball Recap 1/11

RISD Boys Basketball

Our Roosters basketball team traveled South to Delaware School for the Deaf to
kick off the 2020 year. Playing without two key starters and two other bench
players, we were short handed and this showed in the first quarter as DSD
exploded to a 12-4 first quarter. Our coaches challenged the team to step up to
the task and take back control of the game— which we did by ending the first
half with the lead.

We were able to maintain control through the third quarter, holding on to a
5-point lead before things started to fall apart in the fourth quarter. Despite
attempts to change the game momentum/our scheme, we couldn’t stop Delaware’s
fourth quarter rally and lost 31-27.

RISD – 4 12 8 3 – 27
DSD – 12 3 4 12 – 31

Jayden E. – 25 Points, 11 Rebounds

RISD Boys BB Record: 2-3
Next Game: Monday, January 13 @ Wilbur and McMahon Schools

RISD Girls Basketball

Our RISD Girls Basketball traveled to Newark to play Delaware School for the
Deaf. We’ve met in the last two ESDAA Tournaments, so it was nice to finally
play each other during the regular season (first time in maybe 7-8 years?).

This game was a very tightly contested one through the first half as each point
on the board was huge for either sides. Delaware held a 8-7 halftime lead.

Coming back into the court, it looks like both teams’ offenses woke up and
traded baskets back and forth, Delaware holding on to 18-15 lead. Our Lady
Roosters woke up in the fourth quarter and took advantage of Delaware’s foul
troubles with a 10-2 run to seize the lead and win a tightly contested game,
25-20.

RISD – 2 5 8 10 – 25
DSD – 6 2 10 2 – 20

Yasmin S. – 10 Points, 7 Steals
Melissa E-G. – 9 Points, 12 Rebounds

RISD Girls BB Record: 3-2
Next Game: Monday, January 13 @ Wilbur and McMahon Schools

Riverside basketball

We played Newport Christian earlier today in front of good number of fans.
Girls won a very physical non-league game, 45-41 and boys lost a
nail-biting
game as well, 42-38.

Girls record: 12-2 (4-0) and boys record: 4-7 (2-2). Next up: United
Christian Academy at home on Tuesday.

Riverside struggled to get past Newport Christian who had vastly improved
since the last meeting in December.  Bree Goldstein led all scorers with
20
points despite being the focus of the other team’s defense.  Team record
12-2 league 4-0.  Next game: United Christian on Tuesday at home.

random deafsports talk

Clerc is nation’s premier basketball tournament.

Over the years have there been any shocking
upsets – such as #8 seeded team defeating
#1 seeded team?

Do not know.

Does anyone know?

Thanks
