Gallaudet swim teams ready for 2020 NEAC championships at SUNY Cobleskill this weekend

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Gallaudet men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams will
head north this weekend for the 2020 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC)
championships (Feb. 14-16) at SUNY Cobleskill in the Bouck Hall Natatorium.

The preliminary rounds will begin each day at 10 a.m., followed by the
championship round races starting at 6 p.m. except on Sunday, Feb. 16, when the
championship rounds will begin at 4:45 p.m. The three-day championships will
also be livestreamed and can be viewed at the following link at the bottom of
this release.

GU’s women’s swimming and diving team finished 0-13 overall and 0-4 in NEAC
competition this year. Last year, the Bison finished the three-day championship
meet in fifth place after accumulating 213 points in 20 events. Cazenovia won
its fifth consecutive NEAC championship in 2019 with 595 points. Wells College
took second place with 476 points while Cedar Crest College took third (470) and
Cobleskill took fourth (229).

Gallaudet’s men’s swimming and diving team went 2-8 overall and 2-1 in NEAC
competition during the 2019-20 regular season. At the NEAC championships in 2019
the Bison finished in third place with a total of 244 points in 20 events. SUNY
Cobleskill took home first place with 358 points, the third consecutive title
for the Fighting Tigers.

“No matter how far you have to go, push on until you finish the race. Mental
endurance is tougher than physical endurance but I have confidence in our
swimmers that they will be successful this weekend with some PRs (personal
records) accomplished,” said Gallaudet assistant coach Chelsea Newberry, when
asked about the upcoming championships.

Gallaudet last won a NEAC swimming championship in 2014 when the Bison men’s
team won their third title. GU men’s titles earned came in 2010-11, 2011-12 and
2013-14. The Gallaudet women’s team has one NEAC title (2010-11).

note:
let us just hope that Ben Sealts, just about the top swimmer
in the conference, will pick up more honors during the conference
meet.  He is the best Gallaudet swimmer in the past 5-6 seasons.

Subject: Box Score for game: SMSD 2019-2020 vs Falk

The Bisons took on Falk yesterday evening for their final game of the regular
season. Both teams were neck and neck for most of the game, but the Bisons were
able to go on a little run in the 2nd half to take control of the game. The team
was active on defense by recording 16 steals as a team. Nick Barrus led the team
with a solid 26 points, followed by Kassim Kassim with 17 points, Ryan
Brzezinski had 4 points and Ethan Antone and Isa Habeeb each had 2 points for
the Bisons. The team finished their regular season on a strong note and have
earned this break. Congratulate the team if you see them today for all their
hard work in the past few weeks. Go Bisons!

Record: 7-12

Next game: TBD

random DeafSports thoughts

Many, many basketball updates sent me few days ago,
to just one basketball update today?  Yes, as
basketball season nears the end and as more deaf
schools finish their seasons, stories are less
but it means one thing – spring season is
coming up (track, baseball, softball)
