Gallaudet football

past Gallaudet football player, current assistant football coach

posting as is:

On Sunday, September 27 at 4:30 p.m., MPT-HD will presents Anyone Like Me.
Directed by Mimi d’Autremont, the 30-minute film explores the intersection
of deaf culture and America’s favorite pastime: football. The story
centers on Shelby Bean, a hard of hearing man who came to Gallaudet
University in Washington, D.C. as a student athlete in 2009 and then
became a football coach there after he graduated in 2013. Gallaudet is the
world’s only university designed for deaf and hard of hearing individuals
and is home to the only deaf collegiate football team. A film trailer can
be viewed at vimeo.com/194275078

note:
He was a full time starter at defensive back and also the team’s
punter. Very much a valued player during his career at Gallaudet

Gallaudet basketball

all NCAA-I teams in a proposed “all colleges” national basketball tournament

A joke or not a joke?

There was a proposal that NCAA establish Division I all-schools
national basketball tournament.

If this is the case then NCAA-III schools deserve a break, meaning
NCAA-III all-schools national basketball tournament.

In that case, Gallaudet, a NCAA-III school, would be entered into
that all-schools national basketball tournament.

A joke or not a joke? Stay tuned!

TSD Fall Athletics

Our athletics and coaching staff were thrilled to reconnect with our athletes
once again and watch them compete on the court or field with Ranger Pride.  I
have some important announcements to make.

Fall HS Athletics:
I am currently working diligently to find a head coach for both Cross Country
and one for fall Cheerleading. With this being said, there will be no practice
date set up until I get these positions filled.  If you are interested in
coaching Cheerleading or Cross Country, go ahead and email me
(chris.hamilton@tsd.state.tx.us)

We will be playing 6-man football this fall.  We have lost many players in the
last 2-3 years due to graduation. This fall, we have a small group of players
who can compete on the Varsity level every week and we are concerned about the
safety of our boys during the whole season playing against bigger 11-man
football teams.  Head Coach John Moore and I had a meeting with the football
players last week via zoom.  Though there were disappointments and differing
points of view, we had a healthy dialogue that led to the agreement to play
6-man this fall.  We hope this will not be a permanent move. We would love to go
back to 11-man once we have the appropriate number of players who can compete on
the Varsity level, hopefully in fall 2022. The coaches and I are committed to
work toward this goal. The football team had their first practice on September
8th. Junior Varsity and Varsity volleyball teams had their first practice on
September 8th as well.

Homecoming at TSD is like no other at any other high school.  It is a tradition
that is revered by all alumni, staff, students, families and the community at
large.  Due to the size and scope of our Homecoming event we do not think it is
possible to host it this year given all the CDC restrictions for COVID-19.  We
will likely have one special game that will honor our athletes but we will not
host our Homecoming event this year.

Together we will make this the best year possible!
Go Rangers!

Chris Hamilton, Athletic Director

note:
Texas originally set up a 11-man schedule for this season; this meant
the school had to throw out that schedule and set up a new 6-man
schedule of 8 games with 6 man teams. Hint, if the coaching staff is
unfamiliar with 6-man rules, they could ask assistant coach Bill
Jacobs. He previously coached 6-man football at New Mexico School
for the Deaf. Anyway on that schedule is post-season 6-man playoffs,
if the school advances that far in 6-man football.

a moment of notice – football

this is the first time in Deaf Schools Sports history
that no deaf 11-man teams would be playing in a
season.

DeafDigest Sports knows 11-man football will come
back, at least in 2022 if not in 2021.

Deaf Football is not dead, just temporarily suspended.

The goal of Gallaudet men’s basketball team
is to enter the national NCAA-III tournament.

Gallaudet has never played in the nationals.

If, by a big surprise, NCAA hosts a national
NCAA-III tournament for all teams, it would
mean Gallaudet’s first time ever participation!
