Texas football team in state 6-man championship finals

TSD (6-3) defeated San Marcos Academy (6-4) by a score of 39-28 to advance
to the state division one championship.  Texas School for the Deaf will
face Veritas Academy for the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and
Parochial Schools) 6-man football state division one championship on
December 11, 2020 at 6:00 pm.

note #1
Texas was in state TAPPS 11-man state semi finals several times
but never made it to the state finals.

note #2
it is the second time Texas reached the post-season championship
finals – it was the league championship finals way back in 1957.
Texas lost 20-19 to Lanier in the Southwest Academic League
championship finals. There was no such a thing as TAPPS in
these days, and Texas would have won the game if they had
full time services of their two best players. One was hurt
and only was used on passing plays; the other one was
thrown out of game after the 2nd half kickoff for unnecessary
roughness.

note #3
the only deaf school to win the state 6-man football championship
was New Mexico School for the Deaf which won the 2006 state
championship.

note #4
Veritas defeated Texas 58-25 in an early season game. They
are unbeaten with a 9-0 record.

note #5
in a San Marcos newspaper:

San Marcos Head coach Les Davis said early in the season that the team
was “still learning the differences between 11-man and six-man” football
but that, once the players and coaches figured it out, they would be
“pretty good.”

GO RANGERS, GO!

NEAC Presidents’ Council statement regarding men’s and women’s basketball

LATHAM, N.Y. – Following a unanimous decision by the North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) Presidents’ Council, conference competition and
championships for men’s and women’s basketball have been canceled for the
2020-21 season.

note:
DC is now not allowing high school sports. While this includes Model
Secondary School for the Deaf, it did not address the issue regarding
intercollegiate sports as there is a number of college teams within
the DC city limits.

Florida boys’ basketball

Hello Dragon Fans.  We played our first game of the season on 12/1 vs
Halifax Academy.  We didn’t come away with a victory on our home court,
37-45.   After a very
sloppy start, we were able to put together a solid 4th quarter to put a
scare in our opponents.

12/1 vs Halifax Academy. L 37-45.
Halftime score: 13-29
Rebs: Matthew Guillou 12, Luis Merced 7
Assts: Walter Douglas 2, Josiah Roberson 2, Luis Merced 2
Pts: Justin Cabrera 8, Luis Merced 8, Matthew Guillou 7

Texas girls’ basketball

Varsity Girls Basketball participated in the Temple Holy Trinity
tournament last weekend in Temple.  We played a total of three games,
defeating Summit Christian (45-4), Allen Academy (25-23), and Holy Trinity
(34-21).  The tournament itself was what we needed considering that we are
a “new” team (only one returning player from last year’s squad).  Winning
all games definitely boosted our girls’ confidence going forward.

Bre’Asia was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.   All
girls contributed to the team’s success last weekend.

Congratulations to all of the players for a great weekend of basketball.

We have had two other schools that won state championships
(8-man) during the 1970’s (Colorado and Arizona).

We have had two other schools that reached the state
11-man championship finals (Oklahoma and North Carolina).
Oklahoma was amazing as they reached the state finals
in only their second season of varsity football play!
