football upates

DeafDigest Sports editor now has copies of 4 schedules

by cross referencing these schedules for deaf vs deaf
games plus some feedback from other coaches, at least
16 schools will be playing football.

Two schools, with longtime football programs,
will not be playing football this fall.

DeafDigest Sports editor has been asking for
schedules from some other coaches and athletic
directors.

If your schedule is already done, please email
it to barry@deafdigest.com

If your schedule is not yet done, please email
barry@deafdigest.com AFTER it is done.

16 schools (and hopefully growing), great; only
3 schools played football this past season
(Alabama, Mississippi and Texas, which won
state 6-man private schools championship).

Alabama vs Mississippi was last season’s
only deaf vs deaf game.

Many thanks!

more and more hearing females are getting
management and coaching positions in
MLB, NBA and NFL.

This is great.

But what about the deaf?

DeafDigest Sports editor only knows of
two deaf individuals – Michael Fischer
and Ben Wade.

Fischer, a Gallaudet graduate, is the
vice president of player personnel with
the Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA).

Ben Wade, who functioned as a hearing
person, despite his serious hearing
loss, pitched in the majors for five
seasons (late forties and early
fifties), and served the Los
Angeles Dodgers as a long time
Director of Scouting services.

His bio would not mention his deafness
but it was no secret among fans that
follow baseball closely. His past
major league teammates said Wade
did not mix too well with the
players – and was always socially
aloof, avoiding conversation with
them.

Any more deaf in these front office
positions in the future?

Hope so.
